Building your own Personal Development Library is critical to your success. You may attend various seminars and classes on personal development topics, but they are not accessible as your own personal development library. Having a personal development library has allowed me to reference specific topics that I want to read or listen to again to refresh my memory.
When you attend a seminar or personal development class you are more than likely taking notes. Notes are highly over rated as they interfere with the current information that the presenter is providing you. You get caught up in writing down what the presenter told you a few minutes ago and you miss what the presenter is currently telling you.
To effectively receive the information at the time of the event you should be open to receiving all of the information as it is presented to you. You should purchase books and audio Cds that the presenter offers, so that you can go over the information that they provide you on your own terms.
Learning is a continuous process and you can gather “nuggets of gold” as you listen to a presenter but you will not really learn the topic until you have read and reread the information and process it at your own speed. (or listen to the information over and over if it is provided in and audio CD format)
This is where a personal development library is critical it to enhance the learning experience. How many times did it take for you to learn how to tie your shoes, or how to drive a car? It was not with one session of note taking and then you were on your way driving down the highway or tying your shoes the next day. If it was that simple every child would be provided a instruction manual and child development would occur overnight and not the years it takes to “grow up”.
The Personal Development library allows you to access information on your terms. It allows you to revisit specific topics that you learned on your own time table. You may become aware of certain techniques or information that you are not ready to utilize in your personal or business life at that specific moment. Having a Personal Development library allows you to access the information you require when the time is right for you.
